THE OLD WAY

As an emerging franchise brand, you are normally presented with three options for promoting and growing your concept. The first option, is when the founders perform the sales and marketing duties to find potential franchisees. These founding members do know the business model best, and can covey the benefits well but, at the great cost of distraction from all the other duties required to enhance the systems and infrastructure. Plus, this can be very exhausting on the core team juggling calls after calls of potential prospects while still doing their own duties. (so, this is highly not recommended)

The second option, is when an internal franchise sales team is hired run ads, attend expos, manage the CRM, handle calls and follow-ups, help conduct discovery days and events etc. This can be an ideal method as the franchisor can closely monitor the educational process, conversation points, distribution of materials, path of discovery for individual prospects but, this comes with a high monthly cost. To manage these needs and stages, it is very common for a brand to spend $150,000 to $200,000+ annually (plus incentives), which can be difficult for an emerging brand. Plus, will have all the normal employee relationship and management issues to deal with. (so, this is typically reserved for well established brands with a steady cash flow to support the team)

THE NEW (BETTER) WAY

The third option, is to engage with an outside sales development team. Often referred to as an “FSO” Franchise Sales Organization. An FSO has the experience of how and where to advertise for potential franchisees, as they are accountable for advertising spend and results. Which expos, events, broker networks to engage with, as experience has taught which are the best use of their time and resources. Have proven CRM’s and follow-up campaigns to nurture and educate prospective franchisee clients, saving the franchisor considerable costs and efforts. And most importantly, the experience and knowledge on how to walk prospects through a structured educational path, how to financially pre-qualify and filter out non-qualified prospects, and how and when to present these clients to the franchise for discovery days and closings.
